Made In Norway 1960s Lobster Clip Closure Parka By Helly Hansen
Helly Hansen, established in 1877 by Norwegian sea captain Helly Juell Hansen, has a rich history of innovation in protective clothing. The company began by producing oilskin jackets, trousers, and tarpaulins made from coarse linen soaked in linseed oil, providing waterproof gear for sailors and workers. In 1949, they introduced Helox, a translucent PVC plastic sewn into waterproof coats and hats, which became widely popular. The 1970s saw the development of LIFA, a polypropylene fiber that effectively wicked moisture away from the body, forming the basis of the company's three-layer system for optimal insulation and dryness. Further advancements included the launch of Helly Tech in 1980, a breathable and waterproof fabric system combining hydrophilic and microporous technology. In 2012, the brand introduced H2 Flow Technology, allowing wearers to regulate body temperature through innovative ventilation in their jackets. Over the years, Helly Hansen has experienced several ownership changes, including acquisition by Canadian Tire in 2018. In February 2025, Kontoor Brands, owner of Wrangler and Lee, purchased Helly Hansen for approximately $900 million, aiming to diversify into technical mountain and nautical apparel.Today, Helly Hansen continues to be a leader in high-performance outdoor apparel, trusted by professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.
