Eric Partridge (1894–1979) was a New Zealand-born lexicographer renowned for his extensive work on the English language. His interest in language, particularly slang, was sparked during his service with the Australian infantry in World War I. This fascination deepened during World War II, when he worked with the Royal Air Force and subsequently published The Dictionary of RAF Slang in 1945. Over his lifetime, Partridge authored more than forty books, many of which explored the richness and evolution of English, especially its colloquialisms, idioms, and informal expressions. His work remains influential in the study of English usage and slang.
