British 1930s 1940s Cream Flannels By DAKS and “Simpson Tailored”
Simpson Tailors, originally known as Simpson of Piccadilly, was founded in London in 1936 by Alec Simpson. Renowned for its innovative approach to menswear retailing, the store became famous for its modern, streamlined interior designed by architect Joseph Emberton and visual displays by Bauhaus artist László Moholy-Nagy. Located in a striking Art Deco building on Piccadilly, it was one of the first to showcase ready-to-wear suits in an elegant, department-store-like setting, revolutionizing British menswear. The brand eventually became part of the DAKS Simpson group, merging with the historic trouser-maker DAKS. Though the original store closed in the 1990s, Simpson's legacy lives on through the DAKS label and its influence on British tailoring and retail design.
